I was always a heavy child and I wasn’t very active. I love food. I was raised to clean my plate. "There’s children starving in China and you don’t want to finish your dinner?!" my father and grandfather would say to me. We didn’t believe in leftovers. I didn’t play sports, nor did I get involved in school activities. I attempted to participate in basketball in grammar school but I was usually benched due to my size.
From 7th grade until I graduated high school, my weight steadily increased. By the time I graduated high school in 1993, I tipped the scale at 310 lbs. I was lazy, lethargic and had awful eating habits and a nonexistent exercise regiment. Being frustrated with being so out of shape and sporting a 48" waist, I finally decided to turn my lifestyle around and worked on getting healthy and becoming more active.

When I started working with Andrea, she taught me an effective mantra for learning how to stop eating when I felt full. "It’s only food," she would say to me. I started to learn not only what to eat but also about portion control. Andrea showed me the importance of measuring and preplanning my meals, which helped me put into perspective how much food I was consuming. Along with the proper eating practices, Andrea also showed me proper exercising techniques. We started off slow but as time went on, my endurance built up and I was able to keep up with the workouts and see the results.
Working with Andrea and listening to her advice, I was able to go from 310 lbs to 215 lbs. My waist size also reduced from 48" to 37". Many people say that their goal is to get down to their high school weight. Ironically, I’m in better shape and better health now than I was in high school and even college.

I now enjoy being active and doing such things as bike riding, walking and kayaking. I have also learned to log what I eat, and weigh and measure my portions properly. Thank you, Andrea, for all your help.
